Neonatal Trust Scent Hearts Project

Miss O Charles —

Looking for something crafty to do? Keen to learn a new skill? You can do this and support some of New Zealand's tiniest and most vulnerable babies at the same time!

Columba College is taking part in an initiative led by the Neonatal Trust, called the Scent Hearts Project. This involves making hearts out of cotton fabric to give to parents whose babies are cared for in Neonatal Units around the country.

The hearts are made in pairs - one is given to the parents to wear when they are apart from their baby, and the second heart is placed near the baby. The hearts are then swapped frequently to maintain a bond, so the baby and their parents can smell each other and feel loved.

If any students or their families would like to get involved, then please see Ms Hillier in her Braemar office for all the supplies you will need (fabric, storage bags, sewing pattern etc). The sewing pattern is attached; it's a super simple design that will take no time at all but is for such a worthy cause. We will be running this initiative until at least the end of next term, so there is plenty of time to get involved.
