Rugby Team advance to Finals
After impressing in their Semi Final against a strong Otago Girls side the Columba College First XV Team are in the Final for the Secondary School Rugby Competition next Wednesday, 4.30pm at Logan Park.
The team will face their Dunedin rivals, St Hilda's in what is set to be the match of the season. Columba has faced St Hilda's on two occasions this season losing the first by 7 and drawing recently after an officials mistake. Captain Maia Joseph had the ball as the full-time hooter sounded 5m out from the try line. She asked the referee for the score and he replied "your up by 2" Maia proceeded to kick the the ball for touch believing the game had been won. It was then discovered he had the score wrong and the game resulted in a tie.
Our Columba side has impressed throughout, and have made vast improvements from week one. Coaches Bob Sinclair and Mel Fowler have shaped this group of talented athletes into skilled rugby players and their knowledge of the game has notably developed. We are immensely proud of how far you have come, wish you all the best and look forward to supporting you next week as you fight to win the title.
Head along to show your support, wear your Columba Blazer, Beanie and warm clothes to cheer on this superstar side. 4.30-5.45pm, Wednesday 28 August at Logan Park.
