The Bard is Back Baby!
Term 1 is always a celebration of Shakespeare's work (and alliteration) here at Columba and in Ōtepoti Dunedin.
Dunedin Summer Shakespeare is performing for free The Comedy of Errors at Chingford Park in NEV until February 15 (if it rains the show goes on and is moved to Dunedin North Intermediate). The Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Regional Festival has the maximum number of Columba teams entered (April 3), and John McGlashan College will host a two-person performance of Julius Caesar in March.
And 2025 will officially mark 30 years of operations for The Ugly Shakespeare Company (and shows in our very own Constance Hall). In addition to a stellar cast, world-renowned clown Trygve Wakenshaw has written an 'Uglified' script of The Tempest, and USC alumni Frankie Browne is putting her spin on Hamlet as well as bringing both shows to life with her second tour as the USC director. The Uglies will be performing once again in the school hall on Monday, March 10 in period 1 for years 7-13.
"Small cheer and great welcome makes a merry feast."
Henry VIII, Act 1, scene 1, lines 168-169
