Activities in Junior School Digital Technology

Mrs J Pollard —

The Junior School have been completing a range of fun, practical activities which has encouraged critical thinking and problem solving. Here are some photos and videos of what we have been up to so far this term.

Year 0-2 classes have been understanding what technology is and how it helps make our lives easier. They used the app 'Chatterpix' to make their ideas come alive by taking a photo of a piece of technology (or a drawing) and identifying how it is helpful in our everyday life.

Year 3 and 4 have been exploring animation using stop motion. Stop motion is a special type of animation. It uses real objects—instead of drawings or computer-generated images—to tell a story. The story characters can be people, animals, or even everyday objects.  Students take repeated photos to make their objects move.

These classes have been perfecting their skills and using a range of objects to manipulate and create scenes.

Year 5 and 6 have been exploring robotics using Spheros and have been using their knowledge of geometry, statistics and numeracy to explore perimeter of shapes using the sensor data on the Spheros. This week, we tried to create a looped code to create a spirograph design. This turned out to be more difficult than anticipated due to a small piece of paper and the speed of the Sphero. Nevertheless, it was a great problem-solving activity!
