Handball Highlights

Mrs G Beardmore —

On Monday 16th November Columba College started Junior Sports Week with a blast as our Junior team entered the Handball Tournament at the Edgar Centre.

Teacher in charge on the day, Miss Ashley Wilson submitted a summary of events, and was very proud of the efforts displayed by the team.

The girls did well in the first game beating Logan Park (arguably the top team) in a high scoring game by one goal right on the whistle. With lots of running and only one sub, energy levels started to fall after game one however, and the team went down in their second game by a few goals to Otago Girls HS in what was a very close match. Game three against East Otago HS involved another tight battle, with the match going right down to the wire, and Columba ultimately losing by only one goal in the last minute. The team finished the day with a very physical match against Kavanagh College, and despite a strong effort, Columba again narrowly lost by only a few goals.

Well done girls on giving it your all, and having a fun and positive day with your friends. This is what Junior Sports Week is all about. For some students even, Junior Sports week stimulates the start of a new and positive relationship with sport, and is an excellent initiative by our National and Regional Sporting bodies. It is great to see Columba entering into the spirit of the competition!
