On August 15th, Columba’s senior choir, Cantus Columba, consisting of around 30 Year 9-13 girls, drove up to Timaru to compete in the Big Sing Cadenza.

All three of Columba's hockey teams made finals for the Dunedin Secondary School Competition. First XI Senior A, Second XI Colts and Third XI Renegades all finished top two in their divisions throughout the season and progressed through to the big dance held on Monday evening.

Each year Columba College is asked for volunteers to help Charities and Trusts with their annual street appeals.

Our Junior Netball team had a great day competing in the Otago Primary Schools Netball Tournament on Wednesday, held at the Edgar Centre.

The national anthem has a different meaning, a different emotional connection when its you standing out there representing your country. The first time I heard it will always be my most vivid memory of the tournament.

In 1978 the first Space Invaders machine was unpacked at an arcade in Japan. Since then, adults have had concerns over young people losing their souls to video games. Gaming is now everywhere. After 40 years, the gaming industry has become very accomplished at creating powerfully addictive entertainment.

On Friday 16th August, 33 of the top-ranking ukulele players from years 7 and 8 travelled with Robyn McKay and myself (Anna Leese) down to the Dunedin Town Hall to enjoy a fun and challenging morning of Ukulele playing.

We have a number of athletes achieving in sport here at Columba College, and we are very proud of our extremely high participation rate in sport on offer at our school.

This weekend marks the end of the competitive Netball season for the majority of our Columba College teams. Senior A being the exception, as they set their sights on the SISS Netball Championships in Nelson early September.

After impressing in their Semi Final against a strong Otago Girls side the Columba College First XV Team are in the Final for the Secondary School Rugby Competition next Wednesday, 4.30pm at Logan Park.

As part of our study of India in Social Studies, each of our classes got to enjoy the opportunity to have a shared Indian Lunch.

Spring Rolls are usually eaten during the Spring Festival, hence the name. Year 8 Chinese class researched the spring rolls’ recipe and had a “cooking workshop” this week to learn how to make and cook spring rolls with Ms Ding.
