Staff vs Students
Miss D Turnbull — April 10, 2024
This year we set up a Staff vs Student competition within the College to build connections and camaraderie while celebrating the 'Columba Spirit' across our entire community.
Aiming to win the prestigious "Challenge Shield" and seeking redemption after losing the Tug of War inaugural battle at Cross Country, the staff came out firing from the get-go! Taking an early 2-0 lead in the best of 3 games, the staff were dominant and aimed with precision as they cleared the students out in a matter of minutes.
Right from the outset rules were agreed upon and discussed to establish what we thought was an even playing field. Staff showed up confidently with just 13 players to compete against almost an entire Year 13 outfit.
It took at least a game and a half before the students found their rhythm… and of course, once we bent the rules to suit them. A few tactics came into play and a few stray balls were thrown before they managed to claim a win in the final game, narrowly losing 2-1 to the staff.
The atmosphere from the crowd was electric and 'Columba Spirit' was the winner on the day!! To conclude the spectacle, Year 13 Head Prefect Zara reluctantly handed the challenge shield over to our Director of Sport Miss Turnbull after a convincing display of Dodgeball.
