We are thrilled to share some exciting news from the recent Dunedin Interschool EPro8 competition, where Columba College's Year 7 and Year 8 teams showcased their engineering prowess and problem-solving skills.
EPro8, known for its focus on teamwork, provided the perfect platform for our students to shine. The Dunedin inter-school competition was held at Dunedin North Intermediate on Monday evening and lasted for 3 hours!
The competition was intense as teams from various schools across Dunedin came together to tackle a series of engineering challenges. Armed with their creativity, technical know-how, and collaborative spirit, Columba College's teams dove into the tasks with enthusiasm.
We are proud to announce that our Year 8 team distinguished themselves by securing the third position in the competition. This qualified the team for a place in the Otago Grand Final competition, which took place on Wednesday evening.
During the final, our team of young engineers took on challenges such as building a set of automated curtains that could open and close at the push of a button. After this, they built a lawnmower that could move forwards and backwards, spin its blade, and even turn left at the push of a button! The team was near the top of the leaderboard for the entire evening and truly embodied the Columba spirit with their perseverance, teamwork, respect and cleanliness. Unfortunately, a late burst from a competitor saw our team finish in 4th place, just 10 points away from the podium!
Huge congratulations to both our teams who represented Columba at this competition. You demonstrated great tenacity and technical skill with confidence and grace. We are very proud of your achievement.
The Columba College community looks forward to more remarkable achievements from our budding engineers and problem solvers!
