Maia Robertson, Junior School prefect, did a wonderful job helping the younger students get into the Easter spirit.

Despite our preference for focusing on the positive, the season of Lent is a time when we remember that not all is right in the world. We see evidence of darkness in international events, in situations around us and, if we are honest, we might recognise that we don’t have it all sorted either.

On Tuesday 30th March, Year 11 - 13 students were privileged to be one of the first schools to participate in Road Safety Otago’s presentation on safe driving.

Last Week the Columba College Senior A Volleyball team travelled to Palmerston North for the 2021 Volleyball Nationals.

The Agribusiness class was very excited to go on a field trip this year since last year's Year 12 trip was cancelled due to Covid, It is our major trip for the year.

Congratulations to Columba's very own Bobbi Fleming-Wilson (Year 8) for entering in the 2021 online children's Cross Fit Challenge. Bobbi came 1st in New Zealand, and 8th overall in the world with her entry. What an outstanding achievement!

In remembrance of those who died in war or still serve, Columba will hold a special ANZAC Chapel service on Friday, 7th May.

Columba College rowers raced their hearts out last week at the New Zealand Secondary School Rowing Championships to qualify for 7 A finals - a great result for the 17 athletes.

Year 4 spent a wonderful day exploring and learning new things about our native birds at Orokonui Ecosanctuary.

The Year 10 Global Citizenship class have been looking at ways to reduce their impact on the environment.

Our wonderful Columba College Director of Sport, Dayna Turnbull will soon be away on maternity leave and we wish her well as she embarks on a very important and exciting next chapter of her life!

Year 11 French students had to negotiate and plan an outing for their NCEA level 1 portfolio assessment. They did a fabulous job and had a lot of fun!

On March 25th, Study Dunedin invited us to join the Amazing Race held in Logan Park. It was an excellent opportunity to meet and make friends with the international students from other schools. At the same time, we could also learn how essential teamwork is when dealing with problems. But the most important thing is we could get some exercise and relax after a busy day of studying.

Year 9s put their nutrition nous to the test in Hauora last week as students endeavoured to create the most nutritious and most delicious smoothie.

Our Junior School FBI Leaders (Fun Buddies Indoors) do a fantastic job of looking after younger children during rainy day morning tea and lunch times.

Columba College is proud to celebrate the success of our young athletes who represented Otago at the Triangular Athletics Meet last weekend. Competing at the Caledonian against athletes from across Canterbury and the lower South Island, an amazing amount of talent was on show during the track and field events.

The 2021 South Island Surf Rescue Championships (Saturday 27th March) and the Otago Surf Rescue Championships (Saturday 7th March) took place recently and Columba was represented well by both present and past students.
