The Board of Governors and Board of Trustees have been busy supporting the College this past year, with Covid being a challenging constant. Earlier this week, we sat down together to reflect on the last 12 months.

Prize-giving was a fantastic way to end the academic year with a celebration of students successes and recognition of our wonderful Year 10 cohort as they transition from Middle into Senior School.

Elyse and Emma will lead the Chapel Committee and assist Dr Macleod with organising and running chapel and special services and also upholding the special character of the College in 2022.

On paper, 168-and-a-bit hours seems like a lifetime. In the world of film-making, however, it can pass in the blink of an eye, as our Year 8, 9 and 10 Middle School students learnt towards the end of this term.

Riley Piebenga is the Columba College Senior A Netball Captain and MVP. She represents the Otago U16 team as Captain and was a member of the Steel Steps programme this year. She received her sporting Blue in netball, is a student coach and gives back by umpiring when requested. We would like to send a massive congratulations to Riley as she has been selected for the New Zealand National Talent Development Camp.

Year 9 held their annual Social Studies Government election earlier this week.

Like every end of year as Christmas is getting closer, the German classrooms transfer into little Christmas workshops where students can create German Christmas items, while listening to German carols and the scent of waffles with Nutella and Apfelmus fills the room for our final German class in the year.

This week, the Year 8 Mathematics classes have been learning about Platonic solids using our newly purchased Strawbees construction set.

A huge congratulations to the Green Flippa Ball team for claiming 2nd place in their division throughout the Primary School competition held on Sundays at Moana Pool.

The Columba Junior White Team were undefeated this year. Coached by Lila Rhodes and Madison Flutey with help from Miss Turnbull, this talented group have improved astronomically throughout the season.

Students are placed in whanau groups for the duration of their time in Middle School to provide a strong pastoral foundation and develop a sense of community.

Columba College is again fortunate to have Jim Hoffman running a Tennis Coaching Programme for students of our Junior School in Term 1 of next year. Available for students in Years 2 - 6, the programme is scheduled to begin on 10th February, and will run for 6 weeks.
