International Languages: Level 3

Qualification - NCEA level 3

Course Outline

The course in Languages includes two internally assessed Standards, worth up to 14 credits, and two externally assessed Standards worth 10 credits, making a total of between 19 and 24 credits.

An assessment statement will be issued early in Term One, outlining when the Internal assessment tasks will be due. Students are also required to keep a portfolio of their writing and speaking in the target language and present it for assessment in Term Three.

Scholarship

Those final year students seeking to extend themselves in their languages study, as well as native or near native speakers, may sit the Scholarship Examination, in addition to the Level 3 examinations. It is intended for learners who demonstrate outstanding achievement, high-level critical thinking, abstraction and generalisation, as well as the ability to integrate, synthesise and apply knowledge, skills, understanding and ideas to complex situations.
