Chinese: Level 2

The NCEA Chinese Level 2 class aims to help students to achieve competence up to and including Chinese Curriculum Levels 6 and 7.

By the end of the year, students are confident enough to seek out opportunities to use Chinese. They can interpret selected and adapted media (newspapers, television, magazines, videos, websites, etc.). They are able to make predictions and respond to them. They can also understand, express, and enquire about actions or events which are conditional upon other actions or events. Students can recognise, express, and ask about opinions, attitudes, or emotions in relation to events, actions, and other people. They can also report what someone said or wrote.

Instruction utilises computer, video, CDs, language games, role-playing and interaction with the Mandarin Language assistant.

Main topics include:

  • part-time jobs, work environment
  • health and well-being
  • future careers
  • leisure time, music, books, etc.
  •  travel, ‘my place is best’
  • social issues
  • entertainment

Prerequisite:

Level 1 Chinese and recommended Merit pass in Level 1 External examinations, or with approval from the HoD of Languages.
