Agriculture: Level 3
Agriculture Level 3 is currently taught at John McGlashan College. Entry into this course is subject to approval and availability of space.
Course Content
Four achievement standards, plus a selection of relevant unit standards chosen from Agribusiness Training at Level 3, including both theory and practical components: Quad Bike, Motorcycle and Small engines courses (total of 15 level three credits for Agribusiness courses)
- Conducting an investigation: an in-depth study in scientific investigation with particular attention to agriculture product attributes, especially apples
- Product studies with particular focus on venison production, its marketing and attributes, and profitability as a primary product
- Markets and market forces: an investigation into factors that affect the supply and demand of lamb and apples in New Zealand and abroad
- Environmental issues in primary industry: a particular focus on effluent management on dairy farms, with specific reference to new and innovative waste management technologies (ie, K-line products)
Assessment Total - Level 3 credits available: 35
Acceptance into a John McGlashan College course is at the discretion of senior management, in consultation with relevant HoDs. Students need to have good time management skills. A contribution towards the cost of transport and field trips may be billed to students' accounts.
Prerequisites
12 credits in Level 2 sciences or with approval from the HoD.
