Robocup Regionals 2019

Mr Scott —

Robocup is one of the biggest days on the Otago calender for any budding young programmer.

Students compete against other schools around Dunedin and the wider Otago area in Robotics competitions. There are three main events:

· Theatre

· Search and Rescue

· Robot Soccer

Each of these events are divided up into different grades depending on the coders’ age and experience.

This year Columba had four students competing in the Search and Rescue and the Soccer events. Emma Davis, Maia Robertson, Ruth Huang and Joanna Liu had 5 rounds to demonstrate to the judges their abilities in robot construction and programming. Congratulations to Maia Robertson on winning the Premier Search and Rescue event and also to Ruth Huang and Joanna Liu who placed 1st Equal in the Soccer event. Maia, Ruth and Joanna also won a programming prize for the quality of their coding.

Next year we would like to have more teams participating in Robocup. Mrs Pollard is keen to have a number of teams participate in the Theatre competition next year from the Junior school so catch up with her if you are interested. Otherwise see Mr Scott for more information on Robocup next year.
