CCS 'NUT FREE ZONE' policy
Our Primary School (Y0-6) is a 'Nut Free Zone'. This includes all classrooms and shared spaces, as well as at KASK (Y0-8).
Includes: Primary School (Y0-6) and up to Y7-8 students who attend Kelvin After School Kids (KASK) – students, staff & visitors
The Secondary School students and spaces (Y7-13) are exempt from the ‘nut-free’ policy due to the Food Technology programme and cooking room being unable to meet the demands of a nut-free environment.
Purpose:
To provide a safe learning environment for CCS students with potentially life-threatening nut allergies by minimising the risk of exposure to peanuts, tree nuts, and nut‑containing products across school settings (classrooms, playgrounds and school events).
This policy applies at all times when students are in the care of the school, including:
On school grounds
During school‑run activities
On excursions, camps, and sports event
At school celebrations, cultural events, fundraisers, and shared food days
At KASK – before/after school care
Nut-Free Product definitions:
Nut‑free: NO peanuts, tree nuts (e.g. almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, walnuts, pistachios, macadamias, pine nut, chestnut, brazil nut etc), or products that contain nuts as an ingredient.
Nut‑like products: NO Peanut butter, Nutella/other nut spreads, nut muesli bars, praline, marzipan, pesto with pine nuts or satay.
Policy Statement:
CCS Primary School (Y0-6) and KASK (Y0-8) are nut‑free environments. Peanuts, tree nuts, and nut‑containing foods must not be brought to school in lunchboxes or provided at any school activity.
Food items not specifically listing a specific nut ingredient eg: ingredient list shows ‘may contain traces of nuts’ is exempt from the exclusion and are acceptable to be brought to school.
If your child is sensitive to peanuts or tree nuts, or has a recorded allergy to nuts of any kind, you must give notice to the school office of the allergy, along with any medical plan that you have been provided by your GP/doctor regarding exposure risks and a plan for post-exposure. Our school sick bay staff must be informed of any epi-pen requirements or other medications required post-exposure and a medical form filled out.
Whilst we make every attempt to make our environment suitable and safe for those with allergies, we rely on parents/caregivers being vigilant in the selection of foods that they send to school in lunchboxes and for shared food events. It is also important that parents/caregivers communicate with the school office whenever they become aware of an allergy of their child attending CCS. A Health Alert will need to be created on our school system (KAMAR).
