Digital Learning & BYOD
As the world becomes increasingly digital, our school continues to develop and refine the digital environment that both staff and students use, each day.
Digital Learning looks different in the Primary and Secondary parts of the school. As a school we believe that there needs to be a healthy balance between using digital devices and other activities, for a student to flourish. As students move from Year 0 through to Year 13, access to and time with devices will increase, as will the level of trust given to the student.
In the Primary School, students will typically begin the first few years using iPads to enhance their learning ability and progress with core curriculum Reading and Mathematics. From Year 3 onwards, they will gradually be introduced to using laptops, to develop their ability to use the keyboard for entering information and to publish and print their work.
In the Secondary school, students will have access to a laptop for a significant portion of the day, depending on specific subject content. All teachers will have a Digital Class 'Notebook' that will be used as a central resource are for learning content and lesson instructions. From Year 7 onwards, students have the option of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) or alternatively, they can be issued with a school laptop, if available, to use whenever they need it. The BYOD programme is not compulsory at our school.
BYOD – Initial Setup
If you have decided to let your student (Year 7-13) come to school with a BYOD, you can either order a refurbished one from the school or, you can use one that you already have, if it meets the requirements.
If you will be using one that you already have, it would be much appreciated if you could arrange a time, preferably before school starts, for this to be setup with the school software and accounts.
All information regarding policies and BYOD devices can be found in the Digital Learning & BYOD section of the school website.
Information Evenings
Regardless of the age and stage that students are at, during their schooling, our school takes cyber safety and appropriate device usage, very seriously. As a result, we have a range of strategies and routines to monitor students and to teach them how to make good decisions when using this form of technology. In order to be completely successful in this area, this requires a partnership with the family. To this end, we will provide Information Evenings to assist with this process.
