Canterbury Cricket Finals 2019

‘HOW ZAT 1………..’ Special Congratulations Cotswold 1st X who placed 2nd in the Final.

It was great to see you displaying your silky cricket skills during the finals.  Special thanks to Coach Guthrie and the parents and staff who provided positive support during the season.

Canterbury Primary School Track and Field Stars

A big ‘WAY 2 GO’ to Heath Blackbourn who was crowned Canterbury Champ in the Year 5/6 Discus.  It was great to see all the Cotswold athletes who attended the athletic sports giving their all.  All squad members can be proud of their efforts. Special thanks to Ms Chinnery who managed the team, and the parents who supported our athletes on the day.

Sailing and Water Activities 2020

These two exciting Outdoor Education activities take place during Term 1, 2020:

  • Sailing and Water Activities - Lake Rua
  • Instructors – KORE Sailing School
  • February 12th – Water Confidence 
  • February 13th – Sailing 
  • February 14th – Postponement Day

Teachers will be in touch re transport and the programme for this activity.

Year 4 Beach Ed 2020

This exciting Outdoor Education activity takes place during Term 1, 2020:

  • Beach Ed - Waikuku Beach
  • Instructors – NZ Life Saving Life Guards
  • February 20th (Rm 17 and Rm 18)
  • February 21st (Rm 16)

Teachers will be in touch re transport and the programme for this activity.

School and Year 5/6 Hagley Sport

This year Cotswold will continue to compete in the CPSSA weekly summer sports’ programme participating in Rippa,Ultimate Frisbee, Teeball and Futsal. The children who signed up for this competition at the end of 2019 will be notified about team makeup. We still require parent support with coaching/managing teams in ALL codes. Thank you to the parents who have offered to help with transport (Mr Harper will be in touch). Those not participating in the Hagley Sport programme will be offered a Skills and Game based sporting experience at school on Fridays. 

School Sport and Hagley Sport will begin on Friday, 14th February for Year 6's and Friday 21st February for Year 5 (due to a possible clash with the postponement date for Sailing)

Year 5-6 Girls’ Super Star Cricket League

The girls who signed up for this competition (end of 2019) will be notified about trials and team makeup during the next two weeks. This competition is played on Fridays in February and March.

Year 5-6 Cotswold School Swimming Sports

The Year 5-6 swimming sports is scheduled to take place on 19th February at Jellie Park Swimming Pool.  Please note – the children will be competing in their Year levels. NOT age groups. Children competing in the 50m events will be selected to represent the school at the North-West Zone Swimming Sports and be considered for the CPSSA Triathlon.

Parent support - thank you to the parents who have offered to help with the running of this event (Mr Harper will be in touch).  More information to follow.

Senior School Duathlon

These two events are scheduled to take place this term.

Senior Duathlon – 4th March, p/p 5th March. More information to follow. Children competing in the Yr 5 and 6 Bike Duathlon will be selected to represent the school at the CPSSA Duathlon on 23rd March. The Senior Duathlon will require support from parents. CPSSA Triathlon

Year 5 and 6 students interested in being involved in this event will need to see Mr Harper by Friday, 14 February. Organisers of this event insist on the children being able to swim 75m competently.(Children who would like to be considered for this event MUST compete in the 50m events at the school swimming sports). Participants in the triathlon compete as individuals at a date to be advised. The venue for this event is to be confirmed. For more information see Mr Harper.

Nunweek Park Touch and Summer Hockey

Touch (4th February) and Summer Hockey (10th February) will continue this term and good luck to all the children involved in these two competitions. We hope the second half of the season goes well for you.

Checkers Year 3-4 Mini Basketball

The students who signed up for this competition (end of 2019) will be notified about trials and team makeup during the next two weeks. Tip off for this competition is 27 February. Parent coaching and support on game night is still required. If you can help please see Mr Harper or peter.harper@cotswold.school.nz. This competition is played on Thursdays at the Bishopdale YMCA.  Mouth guards are compulsory for this competition.

Canterbury Year 6 Cricket Competition

It was great to see William Sandford and his Christchurch Metro Cricket teams in action at the annual Year 6 cricket competition held at Hagley Parks and Mandeville in the holidays.  William made a positive contribution for his team who ended the week undefeated.

Weet-Bix Tryathlon 2020

Christchurch , Jellie Park, Burnside, Sunday, 23rd February 2020 (morning and afternoon events)

The Weet-Bix Tryathlon is the largest kids sporting event in the world. The event encourages Kiwi Kids of all sporting abilities, aged between 7 and 15, to get out and Give it a go. Kids can enter either as an individual or as part of the Cotswold Team.

Term 2-3 Sport

The children will be offered various sporting opportunities for Term 2/3. Meetings, information and consent forms will issued during the term.

  • Year 5-6 Winter Sport, Rugby, Football, Hockey, Netball and Table Tennis – Hagley Park
  • Year 4-5 Future Ferns Netball – ChCh Netball Centre.
  • Year 5-6 Basketball – Bishopdale YMCA
  • Year 6 Netball – Saturday, Chch Netball Centre.

Cross Country

We will start practising for the school cross country near the end of the Term. Children wanting to compete for a place in the zone team may start earlier. The zone distance run is 2km.
