Reporting To Parents In 2023
Regular two-way communication between home and school is an essential part of the learning process. The school reports on individual progress to inform parents and promote better learning in the future.
The school reports to parents in a variety of ways including:
- Interviews with the parents/caregivers of new entrants around their sixth week of school
- Meet the Teacher afternoon/evening during the first week of the school year
- Goal setting learning conference for students towards the end of Term 1
- Written reports detailing progress and achievement
- Informal parent interviews
We have changed the way we report to whanau about student’s progress. We will be reporting more frequently to parents as detailed in the diagram below.
We will no longer be providing written, hard copy reports to families as information about your child’s progress will be provided online. Our school selected Hero as our New Zealand Ministry of Education approved online student management and reporting system. Hero shares our school’s vision to put student learning at the centre of all that we do.
The digital report can be accessed anytime and anywhere by multiple family members.
Cotswold School reports will primarily focus on student learning goals in the key curriculum areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. There are eight levels in the National Curriculum that stretch from Year 1 through to Year 13. Each level represents a learning stage in that learning area (subject). Most Year 1 to 6 students will be learning between the curriculum levels 1 to 4. Your child may be at a different level for different learning areas, for example, they may be working at curriculum Level 4 in Mathematics and Level 3 in Reading. The level that each child is learning at will vary compared to the other children in the same year. Once your child has mastered most of the skills, knowledge and understanding of each stage they will progress to the next level.
The key curriculum areas (Reading, Writing and Mathematics) will be reported in Term 2 and 4. There will also be feedback on how your child has performed under the New Zealand Curriculum Key competencies. This will happen in Term 1 and Term 3.
A written report comment will be included in the end of the year report. There will be two face to face meetings with the class Teacher and this will happen in Term 1 (initial meeting) and Term 2 Student Led Conferences.
During the year we will also be sharing other curriculum areas through Seesaw.
