School Sores (Impetigo) Information
We have been made aware of two cases of School Sores (Impetigo) at school. This is a common skin infection which is caused by bacteria. It causes blisters generally on hands and faces especially around the nose and mouth. The blisters burst and turn into a sore with a yellow crust.
If you suspect your child has school sores please take them to their GP for a diagnosis. We ask that you keep your child home from school until one day after the start of treatment. When they do return to school make sure that dressings completely cover their sores to prevent spreading to their classmates.
The following actions may reduce the risk of school sores:-
· Take a daily bath or shower with soap and water
· Practise good hygiene - wash hands with soap regularly
· Put all used tissues and dressings in a rubbish bin with a lid
· Cut fingernails short and keep them clean
· Thoroughly wash grazes or cuts
