Sunscreen / Sunhats Information

Marie Bianco - October 7, 2024

Cotswold Mātāhae is a SunSmart School.

In order to comply with our school’s SunSmart status students must wear hats during morning tea, lunch and outside activities.   School hats must be navy in colour, and have at least a 6 cm brim.

Hats can be purchased from Mainland Uniforms in Wairakei Road or from other retailers.

We would appreciate your assistance by ensuring your child’s hat has had the cord removed, and that it has been clearly named.

We encourage parents to apply sunscreen before their child comes to school, but we do have sunscreen available to reapply during the day.    A new sunscreen dispenser has recently been installed outside the School Office, please encourage your child to reapply during break times.

Current brands available for use at school and EOTC activities are UV Guard Max Kids (SPF 50+) and Nivea Sun Moisture Lock (SPF50).   If you would not like your son/daughter to use these types of sunscreen please advise your child's class teacher and ensure that you supply your own sunblock for during school and EOTC activities.

Students are encouraged to make use of shaded areas when outside. Students eat lunch in the shade or inside, as appropriate.  When the UVI prediction is 8 or above (which is the start of the very high UV rating) students will be eating their lunch inside.
