Red Sock Day

As we all know, New Zealand managed to defend The America's Cup last term. The day before the final race against Italy Luna Rosa all the year 6’s wore Sir Peter Blake's famous lucky red socks in the hopes that New Zealand would return to the mainland holding the cup high above their heads. We were so excited and proud to be a kiwi when Team New Zealand won their final race.

Sir Peter Blake's lucky red socks became famous from his sailing days. Every race he wore these lucky socks and he won all his races while wearing them. New Zealand's only loss was when Sir Peter Blake was unable to race. Without his socks, they lost.

Kiwiana Fun Day

Last term the school started learning about Kiwiana for our topic. The year 5’s and 6’s had a fun day to introduce New Zealand icons. These are things that make New Zealand unique and special. Some Kiwiana icons are; the toy buzzy-bee, L&P, gumboots, silver fern and hokey pokey. We completed lots of different mini challenges like gumboot throwing, kiwifruit relays, rugby throwing and Swandri races. We look forward to learning more about New Zealand over the next few weeks.
