Positive Expectations for Learning
Cotswold school is a PB4L school (Positive Behaviour or as we like to think about it Positive Expectations for Learning)
At Cotswold we foster a respectful environment that enhances learning by consistently teaching and recognising positive behaviours.
The what and why of PB4L
*‘PB4L–SW is an evidence-based framework for implementation that looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual student perspective. It provides schools with a process for teaching social and behavioural skills and helps them to develop a positive, proactive, and systematic approach based on school data. It takes the approach that opportunities for learning and achievement increase if:
the school environment is positive and supportive
expectations are consistently clear
students are consistently taught expected behaviours
expected behaviours are consistently acknowledged
inappropriate behaviours are consistently responded to in a fair and equitable way. ‘

At Cotswold we live positive behaviour expectations though the following values:
We are CARING
We accept CHALLENGE
We are effective COMMUNICATORS
The Purpose Of Encouraging Expected Behaviours
The purpose of PB4L is to acknowledge and show appreciation to students who have provided positive demonstration of the school wide behaviour expectations. Such acknowledgement increases the likelihood that positive behaviour will occur in the future.
Weekly Lessons
Each week children engage in lessons modelled on the Expected Behaviour Matrix. These lessons help to develop their understanding and ability to demonstrate the desired behaviours on a daily basis.
PB4L Tokens
PB4L tokens are given out by teachers to positively reinforce desired behaviour. They are designed to be 'free & frequent'...that means that they are given out regularly and for specific behaviours. For example 'Thank you for respectfully moving around the school and walking your scooter over to the bike track'
We have introduced the token system for use in the playground and it will extend into use in the classroom in the near future.
