Breakfast Club in held the Technology Room (enter via the rear doors to the Hall) every morning from 8.30 - 8.50am.

The KickStart Breakfast programme is a partnership between Sanitarium, Fonterra and the Government, with more than 140,000 nutritious breakfasts served each school week in over 1000 schools that run their own KickStart Breakfast Clubs around New Zealand.

At Cotswold Mātāhae we are serving a healthy breakfast of Anchor milk and Weet-Bix each morning.

KickStart is a community partnership initiative helping more tamariki and rangatahi achieve their best by getting a kickstart to their day. KickStart not only helps children nutritionally but also makes a positive impact on their learning behaviours and provides children a place of belonging.

Sanitarium and Fonterra partnered in February 2009 to provide a free school breakfast of Anchor milk and Weet-Bix to all New Zealand schools.  The NZ Government joined us as a supporter in May 2013 which enabled the programme to be extended from two days to five and it was opened up to all schools decile 1 - 10*. Since 2009, over 30 million breakfasts have been served.

Sanitarium and Fonterra provide the product. Then it's up to the school community to provide provisions including bowls, spoons, a central location, food storage facilities and of course the people to run the breakfast club.

The ‘community partnership’ model is an effective one, as by focusing on the critical aspect of food rather than logistics, KickStart is able to provide a breakfast offering to as many schools who choose to take part.

Schools say KickStart Breakfast Clubs are not only helping children nutritionally but is also making a positive impact on learning behaviour. In school research shows;

• Children are happier, have more energy and are able to concentrate longer

• Children are no longer eating junk food at morning tea

• The club provides a great environment for children to socialise together

• The older children are taking on responsibility and looking after the younger ones

* Every state school in New Zealand is given a decile from 1-10 by the Ministry of Education. 1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest.
