Camp Purple Live - Parents Seminar.

Professor Andrew Day - CCNZ Trustee —

One of the key components of the Camp Purple Live program is the Parents Seminar.

This two-day seminar for parents and caregivers has been a part of each camp since the first camp in 2015.  The seminar focuses on education and dealing with the challenges of being a parent of a child with IBD. But, perhaps more importantly, the seminar facilitates networking and interaction among the parents who share so much in common.

Following the seminars, parents often continue their contact with each other through a  Facebook page  that maintains these connections between camps.

In January 2021, for Camp #7, the Parent Seminar needed to be held at a separate venue rather than at the same location as the camp itself (to keep the camp “bubble” under 100 in case we needed to move to “Level 2”). Holding the camp at a separate venue actually worked well. This year's parent seminar included several topics on IBD, but there were also interesting talks such as the impact of technology on our children’s lives, a stimulating presentation focusing on breathing and meditation, and a very well-received talk on managing the ups and downs of being diagnosed with IBD as a young person.

Based on feedback from this year's format, the next Parent Seminar in January 2022 will also be held "off-site", but close to camp. A series of topical, interesting, and relevant presentations is currently being prepared. We anticipate another exciting, successful and well-attended seminar.

The Parents Seminar for 2022 will be held on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of January. While the seminar, airfare, accommodations, and meals are all provide at no cost through our fundraising efforts, there is a $75 registration per person to cover CCNZ’s administrative costs.
