Update on Camp Purple Live 2022 – 1st December 2021

Professor Andrew Day - Camp Committee Chair / Belinda Brown - CEO, CCNZ —

We are very aware that some of our campers, parents and volunteers have questions about how Covid might affect Camp Purple Live 2022.

The CCNZ Board and Camp Purple Committee are constantly assessing the situation on a day-by-day basis. We are also proactively seeking advice directly from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education directly.

Please note these guidelines have already been set by the Covid Protection Framework, our vendors we use for camp (such as Air NZ) and the venue.

Here are answers to some of the questions you may have.

Camp, Volunteer and Camper information

Will camp still proceed?

Yes, we are working under the assumption that camp will proceed as usual in January 2022. Please be aware if the Covid Protection Framework (CPF) changes to red, this may mean that the decision is completely out of our hands. We will keep you updated immediately if there are any changes to these plans.

Will all camp volunteers require a My Vaccine Pass?

All the volunteers that that will be attending Camp Purple Live 2022 have been asked to provide a My Vaccine Pass and will be double vaccinated prior to camp starting.

Will campers aged over 12 years and 3 months require a My Vaccine Pass?

Christchurch is currently in the ‘orange’ level of the Covid Protection Framework (CPF). The guidance for this level states that we only have people with a My Vaccine Pass at the venue with the number of attendees we have registered to attend. So yes, a My Vaccine Pass will be required for all children aged over 12 years and 3 months. Children under the age of 12 years and 3 months do not need to provide a My Vaccine Pass. This is also a requirement of the venue, Living Springs.

Will visitors be allowed at camp?

We have always had a strict policy about visitors coming to camp. This year, visitors will not be permitted to enter the site because we need to keep the “camp bubble” within the required limits and guidelines. This is for the safety of your child, other campers, and volunteers.

Will anyone be required to pass a clear Covid test prior to coming to camp?

At this stage this is not a requirement, but we are taking advice from the Ministry of Health.

Will there be an away-day?

As we have said, we are still planning for camp to proceed normally. We have secured an away-day venue that will be exclusively used by our campers for that day. The venue has confirmed that all staff will be double vaccinated. They are also required to have a rigorous cleaning routine.

Is there a health and safety plan around Covid at camp?

We have a current health and safety plan, which is being assessed regularly by our medical team.

Will masks be required?

Yes. If you are travelling to camp by plane, you must wear a protective face mask on the flight and bus trip to camp. We will also be leaving camp for the away-day and masks will be required to be worn on the bus trips to and from camp. Currently masks will not be required at the camp itself. This may changed based on the CPF guidelines.

How will drop-offs to camp work?

Parents will arrive at camp and deliver their children, with their luggage, to the door of Living Springs. Parents will not be permitted to enter the site because we need to keep the “camp bubble” within the required limits. Please do not ask to come into the camp premises. Remember this is for the safety of your child, other campers, and volunteers. There can be no exceptions. This is also a requirement of the venue, Living Springs.

Will the ‘experience’ Camp Purple for day still be held?

We will be adhering to all guidelines and at this stage this day will be cancelled. However this may change if the CPF level changes to ‘green’. We will be in touch if this happens.

Parents seminar information

Will the parent’s seminar be going ahead?

Yes. We have secured an offsite venue as we did in January 2021 to keep the “camp bubble” within the required limits.

Will parents attending the seminar require a My Vaccine Pass?

As above, we will require a My Vaccine Pass for all attendees at the parent’s seminar, including speakers.

How will the sleeping arrangements work at the parent seminar?

All parents requiring accommodation for the parents’ seminar must notify us now. We are booking single rooms for all registered participants that are travelling alone. If you and your partner are both registered to attend, you will be booked in a shared room.

Will parents attending the seminar be required to have a negative Covid test before attending?

At this stage it is not mandatory. This situation may change dependent on any Ministry of Health requirements.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Please remember this is an ever-changing world we live in and requirements change on a daily basis. So please be patient with us. We are doing everything we can to make this happen for our campers, parents, and volunteers. Again, we will keep you up to date with any changes or new information.
