Our Year 8 students enjoyed action-packed road safety sessions with Garry Milford from the NZ Police this week.
Across three sessions, students learned how to stay safe while cycling, ensuring they’re confident and prepared on the roads.
First up, students checked their bikes were in top shape—brakes, tyres, and helmets all got a once-over. Garry reinforced the importance of always wearing a helmet properly to protect their heads in case of a fall. Then came the biking challenges, where they put their skills to the test with balance drills, obstacle courses, and quick decision-making exercises.
The final session focused on road rules, including a key reminder that bikes belong on the road—not the footpath! Understanding how to ride safely alongside traffic is essential for keeping both cyclists and pedestrians safe.
A huge thank you to Garry for his time and expertise! Hopefully, we’ll see our students riding smarter and safer every day.
