Literacy Week 2024

Matthew McCormick —

What a fantastic way to finish Term 3!

Literacy Week was a resounding success, from start to finish, our students were immersed in a variety of exciting activities that not only celebrated literacy but also ignited their imaginations.

We were thrilled to welcome two fantastic authors, Kate Gordon-Smith and Mark Sommerset, who inspired our young readers with captivating stories and insightful talks. Their visits left the students buzzing with excitement.

One of the highlights of the week was our mystery teacher reading swaps. Teachers surprised different classes by reading their favourite stories aloud. It was wonderful to see students eagerly anticipating which teacher might walk through their classroom door!

Our lunchtime activities were full of fun and creativity, with everything from illustrating and bookmark-making to creative writing sessions.

Students also participated in writing competitions and reading challenges. We had 185 entries for the writing competition all of a very high standard which made for a tough competition. Thank you to SOKs for providing the prizes for this competition.

Congratulations to the following writing competition winners:

Year 0 - Chloe H

Year 1 - Jackson R

Year 2 - Belle DV

Year 3 - Zac S

Year 4 - William S

Year 5 - Emily K

Year 6 - Shyna R

Extreme Readers* Mr McCormick

We ended the week on a high note with our book character dress-up day and parade. The creativity on display was absolutely amazing! Students and staff alike came dressed as their favourite characters, bringing beloved books to life.

Let’s keep the momentum going over the holidays by encouraging our young readers and writers to continue exploring new stories and sharing their love of books at home!
