Cromwell Community Shines at Annual Kapa Haka Celebration

Matthew McCormick —

Last night, Cromwell College was buzzing with excitement as the community came together for the annual Kapa Haka Celebration.

The energy in the room was palpable as we witnessed stunning performances from our youngest tamariki at the local ECE centres, right through to the rangatahi from Goldfields, Cromwell College and, of course, our own Cromwell Primary School.

The evening was a true celebration of connection and whānaungatanga. It was heartwarming to see so many familiar faces, whānau and supporters coming together, all sharing in the joy and pride that kapa haka brings to our community. One of the standout moments was the haka tautoko, where many adults—who have been practicing over the past few weeks—joined in, showcasing the power of collective effort and commitment.

The highlight of the night, however, was undoubtedly the performance by Cromwell Primary. Our tamariki took to the stage with confidence, delivering a passionate kapa haka performance that left many of us in awe. Their poise and mana were a testament to their hard work and dedication.

A special thank you must go to kaiako Sarah, Campbell, and Claire for their leadership and unwavering support of our kapa haka group. We are also incredibly grateful to Melina, who has generously taken time out of her schedule each week to help our tamariki prepare. Your commitment and aroha make all the difference!

This incredible evening was not only a showcase of talent but also a valuable practice ahead of Polyfest, which will take place in the second week of Term 4. We can't wait to see our kapa haka group take the stage once again and represent Cromwell Primary with the same confidence and pride they showed last night.

Tino pai, everyone!
