Our Vision
Imagine a future where Cromwell Primary School stands as a shining example of holistic education and a commitment towards environmental sustainability, where it’s wairua (heart/ soul) is grounded in kaitiakitanga (guardianship of the environment), manaakitanga (hospitality and care), and whānaungatanga (relationship-building). A plan that transforms our grounds into a vibrant, purposeful learning environment.
In this vision, the mundane asphalt courts will give way to lush, inviting astroturf play spaces. Laughter will echo through the air as children engage with state-of-the-art play structures that spark creativity and encourage physical activity. The old, uninspiring landscape will be reborn as a state of the art outdoor learning environment, rife with exploration, socialisation, and learning experiences.
The heart of our vision is a commitment to native flora and fauna. As a Green-Gold Enviroschool, we will prioritise the planting of native trees and plants, creating a living tapestry that showcases the beauty and biodiversity of our region. Children and educators alike will be the kaitiaki of our gardens which will burst with harakeke, kowhai, and rimu trees, fostering a deep connection to our native world.
Shade is not an afterthought in our vision but an essential element of comfort and well-being. Strategically placed sunshades and pergolas provide shelter from sun and rain, ensuring that the outdoor spaces remain inviting and accessible throughout the year.
What sets our master landscape plan apart is our dedication to local stories. Our paths, wayfinders and playgrounds, will wind through the school grounds, connecting students with the rich cultural and historical heritage of Cromwell. Plaques share tales of Maori culture, the gold rush era, and the diversity of our community. This immersive experience will transform our landscape into a learning space where history comes alive.
Our vision is one of continuous learning and connection. Students and teachers gather beneath the shade of native trees, engaging in storytelling journeys that deepen their understanding of our land's history and the community's role in shaping it. This landscape becomes a living history book, fostering a profound sense of belonging and appreciation for our local heritage.
In our vision, the revitalised play spaces at Cromwell Primary School are not just for our students but are open arms to welcome all members of our community. We envision a place where parents, grandparents, and neighbours gather to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, where people of all ages can participate in physical activities, picnics, and cultural events. These playspaces become a hub for cultural exchange and celebration, echoing the values of inclusivity, diversity, and unity. Here, the richness of our community's cultural tapestry is celebrated, and the bonds of whanaungatanga extend beyond the school gates. Our landscape plan aims to create an environment where every member of our community feels a sense of belonging and connection, strengthening the ties that bind us together.
Cromwell Primary School's master landscape plan is not just about revitalising playgrounds and courts; it's about sowing the seeds of a brighter, greener future. Our vision is one of education that nurtures both minds and environments, instilling in our students a sense of pride and responsibility as agents of their education and the land. Together, we cultivate a future where our school stands as a beacon of success, harmonising with nature and echoing the stories of our community for generations to come.
Community Support
This is a lofty and aspirational plan that can not be achieved alone. We need the help of our amazing community, the unwavering support that time and time again is called for and time and time again that call is heard and acted upon. We feel a deep sense of pride and connection to our community and we hope that through executing this plan, our strengthened connection will be evidenced by a revitalised, child and community centered landscape.
