'Principal for the Day's Kōrero...
From our 'Principal for the Day', Master Foxton Thomson!
Today I went to the cafe for lunch with Mrs Bell and Evan and then I talked to each class about their work this week.
In Room 5, they told me that they have been learning about Maui and the Sun. They have done some great artwork.
Room 4 have been learning about simple sentences, which have a 'who' and a 'do'. This week they learned that giraffes sleep standing up and have strong kicks.
Room 3 can describe a picture using compound sentences that contain a coordinating conjunctions.
In Room 2, they are writing narratives, which are a made-up story with description, and a problem that gets solved as the story goes on.
Room 1 are writing 'Moments in Time', with metaphors and similes. They have lots of description and are written in present tense.
Room 6 are learning some very difficult maths called BEDMAS. It tells them the order to figure out long and complicated sums.
I think this learning at Cust School is brilliant! I am very impressed.

(Principal for the Day)
And a quick note from Mrs Bell (the actual principal)...
It has been great fun working with Foxton and friends this week as he has enjoyed his 'Principal for the Day' prize. This reward was one that was auctioned on our PTA Midnight Masque last Saturday night, alongside a heap of other fantastic prizes.
The work that our PTA put into this event was enormous, and I can now formally announce that the final amount raised, minus expenses, was $24,808! This is a reflection not only of the hard mahi by Victoria and her team, but also the generosity of our special Cust community. We are so very grateful.
This money goes directly back into our tamariki in the form of learning support in our classrooms. This support meets needs at all levels, as our teacher aides (kaiāwhina) and teachers (kaiako) work together to maximise the potential of all of our students here at school. Our TAs work with a huge variety of students, every day.
Another way you can support us here at school is by coming along to our working bee this Sunday morning at 10am. Among other jobs, we have some bark to shift into our junior playground. BYO wheelbarrow and shovel, and Mrs Bell may even front with some scones for morning tea!
Next week, we have Julie Greenwood and John Boereboom from the Education Review Office onsite as a part of our scheduled School Improvement cycle. We are excited to show them the learning and systems that we have in place here at Cust School to make sure that every child can 'Be their Best'. If you see them, feel free to say hello and have a chat. We look forward to sharing our school report outlining our strengths and next steps with the community later next term.
Have a fabulous weekend,
Miriam
