Principal's Kōrero...
On Tuesday, four of our Year 7-8 students attended the 'Kids Lit Quiz', an international reading competition. We are thrilled to announce that out of a field of 50 Canterbury schools, the Cust School team of Maya Thompson, Amelie Bell, Jacob Sutcliffe and Hollie Close came 2nd, narrowly missing out on representing our school in the national finals to be held in Wellington! This is a great example of Cust kids yet again punching above their weight - Mahi pai, team! Small enough to KNOW you; big enough to GROW you.
Today, via Hero, you will have received your child's termly learning and engagement report. This gives you as parents and whanau information on your child's achievement as of Term 1, and a summary of how they are doing against our school values - Piko's TIPS for success. Your child's teacher has also written a brief comment regarding how your child has settled into learning for the year. Remember that early next term, we will be holding our 3-way conferences, which is an opportunity for parents to view relevant data and have a more in-depth chat about how your tamariki are learning and developing, and their next steps.
'How can I help my child learn at home?' is a question we are often asked. The following link provides clear tips and ideas for whanau around supporting Reading, Writing, and Mathematics at every year level. Please have a look, they are a great resource.https://www.education.govt.nz/parents-and-caregivers/schools-year-0-13/supporting-learning-home/reading-writing-maths-nzc
Next week is the last week of term, and we have noticed that our students are feeling it! Though the learning will continue in each class, we have some special, traditional activities planned to make sure that we end the term with a smile.
Wednesday 9 April: House colour day
This is a non-uniform day where we encourage your children to come dressed in their house colours. There will be prizes for the best costumes, and our gumboot trophy will be presented to the best-dressed house overall.
On Wednesday, we will also be holding our annual Easter Egg hunt, and a range of Easter-themed activities within our house groups. We can't wait!
Have a fabulous and restful weekend,
Miriam
