Cust School Newsletter | Term 3, Week 5

Principal's Kōrero

Kia ora e te hapori o Cust. Ko te tūmanako i pai tō koutou wiki (I hope you all had a nice week). How amazing was the snow at the start of the week? The kids had a blast and it was such a nice experience. I was quite amazed at how long some of the snowmen stayed up.

EPRO8: This week we had our two EPRO8 teams representing us at the EPRO8 FINALS. We are so proud of them. They did exceptionally well. Thank you to all those parents that supported the kids with the different events. I would like to make a special mention of Neil Trimboy who invested many hours in preparing the kids for their events. We are very fortunate to have help like him in at our school.

Speeches: All classes were in the thick of things this week with their speech writing. Class speech competition will be happening in week 7 with the school competition happening in week 8. We will be sending out a seperate notice next week to let you know when each class will be having their speech competition. You are more than welcome to attend.

Board parent representative: Please see the seperate article that will provide you with some further details of the process and the candidate profiles.

Attendance: We place a high value on attendance at our school. Regular attendance at school helps build and maintain a child's learning, establishes positive daily routines, and promotes wellbeing by connecting them to their peers. Please notify the office by 9:15am if your child will not be at school and the reason. You can notify us by:

  • Hero app (our preferred option and very easy to use)

  • Email the office = office@cust.school.nz

  • Ring the office = 312 5753

The Ministry of Education requires us to follow up on all unexplained student absences for child protection purposes. Your proactive notification helps us staying informed. This leads to a smoother operation and better support for all students and parents.

Attendance really matters. Check out the following table to look at the bigger picture and the impact that good attendance can have.

School disco: The PTA is organising our school's disco for Friday 13th September. Junior disco (years 1-4) will be from 5.30-7 and senior (years 5-8) disco will be 7.30 - 9. Tickets is $5 each and includes a goodie bag. Thank you so much to all of our PTA members who organises and do a lot for the kids. It's going to be a fun night :)

Aladdin: Our musical was such a big success last term. It would be great if you could please consider buying a digital copy for you to keep. Please let the office know if you would like one. Copies are $15 each.

Agriculture day Term 4: Save the date 31st October (note the change of date from the 30th of October to the 31st) for agriculture day. Please check out the poster below and entry details will come at a later date.

Whakatuaki: I really like what this whakatauki communicates:

Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou
ka ora ai te iwi = With your food basket and my food basket the people will thrive.

To me it encapsulates the notion that while working in isolation might result in survival, working together can take people beyond survival and onto prosperity.

Ko te tūmanako ka pai tō mutunga wiki. Ka kite anō i a koutou a tērā wiki (I hope you have a nice weekend. See you next week).

Warm regards

Gerhard Potgieter
