Rooms 4 & 5 News by Admin

Kia Ora Whānau

We’ve had a great start to the term, settling into routines and enjoying our literacy and maths lessons!

In Room 4 and 5, we have been learning how to increase our mana by being role models in class and on the playground. Every day, we strive to do and be our best!

Our tamariki have been loving their swimming lessons at the Cust pool, and we are so proud of their progress. We are seeing big improvements in water confidence, swimming skills, and technique. We’re looking forward to our Junior Swimming Gala - more information to come soon!

In maths, we are exploring statistics - learning how to pose and answer questions, collect data, and make statements about our graphs.

Please ensure students have a drink bottle in class. We also appreciate all your support with home learning.

A special welcome to Mrs. Lia Brown, who has joined us as a teacher, supporting literacy lessons and working with small groups in the junior school.

Kia pai tō rā whakatā - have a great weekend!

Room 6 News | Term 1, Week 4

by Fiona McLachlan

Wow! The first four weeks have flown by! We are so lucky to be able to have such an amazing community asset in the swimming pool and we have been making the most of it while the weather has been fine. Our students are currently super busy prepping for the Non-Championship and Championship Swimming events coming up at Dudley Pool.  We will slowly pull back on our swimming programme as the weather cools down but for now please continue to send your child/ren with their togs everyday.

We spent the first few weeks looking into financial mathematics and have had rich conversations around spending and saving our money.  We have learnt about taxes such as income taxes and GST as well as net and gross wages/salary and we explored concepts like afterpay, lay buy, credit/debit cards, kiwisaver and planning for the future.

During our reading time we have been exploring events in New Zealand history and the comprehension follow up work has been high quality.  Our writing has focused on recounts and we are exploring how to make these exciting and engaging. I have discovered very quickly that the students in Room 6 are a bunch of very capable writers!

Belonging Builds Brilliance is our focus this year and in Room 6 this is at the forefront of everything we are doing - we were so excited to announce our school leaders in assembly last week and we are looking forward to all the ideas and innovation they will bring to their roles.
