Jane Logan —

Our trip to the Christchurch Gondola.

On the last Wednesday of Term 1 we had an exciting adventure.

The whole team travelled by bus to the Christchurch Gondola.  This was part of our Storytelling Unit for the Term. On arrival we were met by our fantastic team of parent and family helpers.  After some kai we made our way onto the gondola cars in our groups and rode to the top!

It was a spectacular day and we could see all around.  Up to the Southern Alps and North to the coast and Kaikoura ranges.

We explored the area around the top of the Gondola ride and completed a discovery find and named lots of places on the colour map we could identify from being so high up.  We were right in the middle and could see both sides , down to the city and out to Lyttelton Port.

Many of us went through the Discovery Time Tunnel.

After lunch we had a cool group photo taken by Isaac Taylor's Mum.

We then made our way down via The Bridle Path.  This was a challenge!

We could understand how difficult it would have been for the Early Settlers that arrived by ship to Lyttelton.

Once back on board our buses the drivers kindly took us for a trip through the Lyttelton tunnel.  This was a highlight, particularly for those that had never driven in it before.

Lots of tired students, teachers and helpers on the way home.

Special thanks to all those that assisted us in having such a special trip.
