OMP Deaf students re-creating the story of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

Sarah Cameron —

Rulin, Darcy, Anthea, Stevie-Jay, Jean Baptiste and Psalms all helped to make Max’s boat. Darcy was very keen to be Max in the story. Jean takes on the persona of the ‘Wild Thing’ that Darcy comes to meet. Max falls asleep on the boat and the Wild Thing tries to wake him up.

Exploring The Wild Things, helps students understanding of the story and vocabulary development. Making a boat out of cardboard and master tape gives the opportunity to learn about construction, measurement and creativity. Students also learn about teamwork – creating a boat and make-believe.
