Noreen Wilson —

On Tuesday 21st May a total of 50 students from our Core Schools attended a digital technology day where they learned about new technology and possible career opportunities for their future.

The day was kickstarted with a speech from The Honourable Carmel Sepuloni, Minister of Social Development and Disabilities. Following from this students were all mixed up and split into 4 groups, then headed to their first station out of 11.

Students noticeably enjoyed the VR stations including, driving using VR goggles. Others enjoyed the outside in the Gym and how technology can support physical activity. New Zealand Relay were there and our students learned how to use video relay services, a skill they will use once they enter the wider world.

Overall, seeing students smiles and high energy was fantastic. A great day all round including students socialising with other provisions and making new connections. To end the day we headed outside for some hot chips and fruit before heading back on the school buses.

Some students reflections of the day.

“I really enjoyed making new friends, collaborating with others and respecting each other”. Said Mohammad year 10.

Kaiden year 9 said, “I think today was fun. I enjoyed it. I learned new things and its good to see my old friends and a lot of fun activities.”
