My role
Year 2 teacher
My teaching philosophy
I believe in creating a safe, caring, stimulating and engaging classroom where children feel happy and have the confidence to explore, experiment, and ask questions. Children need opportunities to work together in a positive non-judgemental environment and have fun while doing it!
My experience/qualifications
I have a Diploma in Teaching and have been teaching for over 30 years. I began teaching in kindergartens, spent 2 years teaching in London at schools for children with special needs, and then moved on to teaching in primary schools, which I love!
I started at DPS in 2011.
My special educational interests
Literacy - inspiring and building confidence in readers and writers to achieve their best
Maths - building confidence and enjoyment
Visual Arts - supporting children to develop their own creativity
About me
I grew up in Nelson and completed my teaching diploma in Christchurch. I then moved to Wellington where I spent 10 years, including 3 years in London. In 2002 my family and I moved to Devonport where I live with my husband and 3 children.
I enjoy walking my dog, gardening, reading, and cooking.
I would love to continue travelling the world one day. The first stop would be back to Hawaii, followed by New York and then on to see family in the UK and Sweden.
