A warm welcome from our School Principal

Reviewed/updated —

Nau mai, haere mai. Welcome, everybody. I can't wait to introduce you to our lovely school.

I consider myself very fortunate to be able to spend time with parents and whanau visiting our school for the first time, and to have the opportunity to share their stories. Whether families come from Devonport itself, or are newly arrived from other parts of New Zealand or from more distant shores, I know that we all want the best for our children.

At Devonport Primary School, we believe in providing an inclusive learning environment, with well-being at the heart. We endeavour for our students, staff, and families/whanau to feel a strong sense of belonging at our school, with mutual respect as a hallmark of everyone's experience. Upon this foundation, we cultivate the concept of personal excellence - the fulfillment of one's potential in all aspects of school life.

With an inspiring vision, a committed team, an appreciation of diversity, a rich and relevant curriculum, and a truly magical setting on Takarunga (Mount Victoria), my aim as school principal is to nurture and empower:

  • bright and happy students who love learning and love coming to school
  • a community of parents/caregivers who trust us to bring out the best in their children, and are involved and informed about their learning
  • a collaborative team of teaching professionals who have access to the latest resources and professional development opportunities

If you're in the process of exploring which school would suit your child best, I hope our website can give you a flavour of what you can expect from Devonport Primary School.

And I would love to take you on a tour of the school and answer any questions you may have. Please contact the school office to make an appointment (office@devonport.school.nz) or email me at beverleyb@devonport.school.nz

He aha te mea nui o te ao. He tangata, he tangata, he tangata
What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.
