My email geraldinea@devonport.school.nz

My role

  • Class Release Teacher (releasing classroom teachers so they can undertake planning, evaluation and reporting requirements)

My teaching philosophy

My pedagogy is about creating and building connections and strong trust-based relationships with colleagues, tamariki /children and whanau /family. I aim to create a classroom environment that is fun, engaging and learning focused whereby children are challenged and are provided the best learning opportunities to reach their potential.

My experience/qualifications

I taught both at West Auckland and Central Auckland schools before heading overseas on my ‘Overseas Experience.’ I travelled through Europe and returned in 1997 where I returned to my previous teaching position in Central Auckland. After teaching at Devonport Primary full-time in 2001, I left to have my first child, since then I returned to fill a variety of roles; as reliever, part time and full-time positions. I have a Diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education.

My special educational interests

  • Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori (Māori language and customs)

  • Neurodiversity

  • Well being

About me

I consider myself to be extremely lucky to be a teacher and still feel excited to see the children’s beautiful, joyful faces at the beginning of the school day. I continue to learn and grow in my professional development and enjoy working with such a talented staff.

My family and I live in Devonport and our children have been pupils at DPS. Being part of the Devonport Community plays an important focus of our family life.
