Kia ora tātou, welcome back to DPS for 2025, and a very warm welcome to our new children and their families.

Beverley Booth —

All staff are looking forward to welcoming our new and returning students and parents to school.

A special and very warm welcome to the new students and their families who start with us next week. We are delighted to have you join our learning community and look forward to getting to know you further in the coming weeks. Amongst our new students we welcome a number of International Students who will be joining us for a short period of time.

We are also excited to welcome back Helen Jaworski-Goulter in her new role as a Classroom Release Teacher, following her parental leave. I know that Helen is looking forward to being back with us for one day each week. As the architect of our Akomanga Ngahere (Forest learning) programme, I know that she will bring a wealth of knowledge and ideas into this space!

We also welcome Kay Baddeley into her new role as a full time classroom teacher. We know Kay well, as a parent and as a Relief Teacher. We are so pleased to have her on the team, bringing significant experience and expertise in primary teaching, as well as the knowledge she has gained through her recent studies in Educational Psychology.

It is always exciting to see the school "come back to life" at the start of the school year and I look forward to catching up with you in the next couple of weeks.

School is looking great, many thanks to Jo who has worked through the summer sprucing up our site.

We have also had some work completed on our pool, with new pump and filters fitted. Our relining of the pool will take place once the summer is over. Our Wendy House has also had some attention, including a new retaining wall.

The teachers have been busy preparing for the new year, including having two days of professional development about Structured Literacy and a teacher only day where we spent time thinking about the key things that make our school what it is. Inevitably, our conversation turned to our values of Belonging, Excellence and Respect and how we weave them through the life of the school. In 2025, our key value will be Respect, starting with respect for who we are as individuals and our respect for each.

We will have our special welcome assembly/ mihi whakatau for new children on Monday 3rd February at 2.10pm. Parents wishing to attend should make their way to the school hall at 2pm. There will be seats available at the back of the hall.
