Attendance - Every Day Matters!

Beverley Booth —

As we enter 2025, a reminder that every day of school matters!

An interesting fact is that if a student misses just one day of school every two weeks, they will have missed a whole year of school by 16 years of age! As a parent or caregiver, you, alongside our school, play a key role in building strong habits of regular school attendance.

Devonport Primary School is committed to supporting every child to attend school through building a culture that fosters excellent attendance by having:

• School staff who have strong relationships with students and whānau

• A school community that does everything to make sure students are at school, and they are participating, and progressing in their education.

Our goal is to have our children have what is termed "Regular Attendance". This means that they attend at least 90% of the time.

Please let us know if your child is going to be absent for a day or intends to be absent for a portion of the school term for whatever reason. If your child is absent please let the office know directly rather than the class teacher. You can send a message via the Hero App or leave a phone message. If emailing, please use the generic office@devonport.school.nz email address as this email is checked frequently during the day. The safety of our students is always of the utmost importance to us so we will call parents if we are not notified of an absence.

A reminder that family holidays in term time, or taking time off for extracurricular activities that are not organised by school, should be avoided where possible. Such absences will be coded as Unjustified.
