DPS Cross Country - Thursday 7th of June Read on for further details...
Hello everybody,
We are looking forward to having another edition of our DPS Cross Country on Wednesday 7th of June!
The children have started building up their endurance, and are ready to show their resilience and persistence
The seniors (8+ year-olds, then 9 year olds, and so on) will start their races from 9.30am,
They will run the same mountain track as last year; 8 year olds twice, 9, 10, 11 year olds 3 times. The course goes from the school grounds down onto Aubyn street, left into Church street and into Flagstaff lane, then climbs the stairs up the mountain to get back over the stile onto school territory.
You could have a go with your child in the tie leading up to it!
The juniors will run after the seniors. This will happen at approx.10.30am. After their warm up they will run the outside of both fields under the loud cheers of the rest of the school.
Results of the DPS Cross Country will inform the selection of the Peninsula Cross Country team on Friday the 15th of June, the week after. This event is only for children that are 8 or up on that 15th.
The children will be earning house points, so it would be great to see everyone wear their house colours on the day. Students will all be sitting in their designated house groups during the races.
We would really appreciate 15 parent helpers that can help us with recording the finishers, marshalling the race-course, or help out in out First Aid corner. This will allow the teaching staff to supervise the rest of the children who are not running. If you like, you can let me know in person or by email so we can pencil you in before the day; annek@devonport.school.nz
Of course the students will all need everyone’s support! So please come and watch us, cameras ready, but making sure not to enter the “running zone” which we will have cordoned off for the runners’ safety.
We have a coffee van coming onto the grounds again, to make the event even more enjoyable with a fresh barista coffee!
Nga mihi,
Anne Keuper
