My roles

  • Class Release Teacher (releasing classroom teachers so they can undertake planning, evaluation and reporting requirements)

My teaching philosophy

My approach to teaching is one that is inclusive, accessible and engaging for all students. Everyday in my classroom I aim to instil in all children that learning is life’s most exciting journey and it doesn’t end when you walk out the school gates. I am extremely passionate about making learning experiences as real and as meaningful as possible for students. That is why I create a classroom that values collaboration, practical investigations and hand-on activities, in order to promote a sense of curiosity and engagement in learning and in life. The students in my class believe that they are never too young to make a difference in this world.

My experience/qualifications

I taught for two years in Sydney (private boys school) and two years in London (private girls school) before moving to New Zealand. I have a Bachelor of Education Primary, a Certificate in Education Studies (Learning Support), and a Bachelor of Business Administration. I started at DPS in 2017.

My special educational interests

  • Learning in the outdoors

  • All things Literacy!

About me

To briefly introduce myself to the Devonport community, my name is Helen Jaworski and I am originally from Sydney. This is where I grew up, completed my teacher training and started my teaching career. At the end of 2016 I moved to New Zealand with my Kiwi partner, after spending a fantastic two years teaching at an independent girls school in London.

Outside of the classroom, I love hiking, cooking, photography and reading. It is such a privilege to be part of the fabulous team here at Devonport Primary School.
