Gifted and talented students
We believe every student should be challenged and that every student has the right to feel a sense of belonging in the classroom. We have a dedicated teacher who has responsibility for oversight of gifted and talented students, their progress and programmes.
Gifted and talented students often make leaps in their educational progress, and it is our responsibility to ensure they continue to reach their potential.
To promote social wellbeing, we usually keep gifted and talented students among peers of the same age and then differentiate learning within the classroom.
However, for exceptionally gifted students, it can be in their best interests to spend some time learning with older students, particularly for maths.
Our PaCT assessment tool shows progression up to Year 10. This means we can be precise about each student's achievement level within the NZ Curriculum, and monitor individual student progression. If necessary, we can borrow resources from middle schools and secondary schools.
Celebrating diversity is an important part of our school culture and all our teachers have a positive and inclusive attitude towards high achievement.
