My teaching philosophy
I believe that the wellbeing of the children is very important. I aim to create a positive, caring environment where all the children feel confident to take risks in the safe and supported culture of the class. I encourage the children to make connections to help build their understanding, and to bring deeper meaning to their learning. The children and I together create a colourful, stimulating interactive learning environment which adds to our sense of ‘belonging’ and pride within our class.
My experience/qualifications
I have been teaching for over 30 years at all levels of Primary School, but mostly Junior children. I have a BA in Education and Psychology, and a Diploma in Teaching. I started at DPS in 2001.
My special educational interests
Literacy in the Junior years
Visual Arts
Visual Arts at DPS
My goal is to promote the visual art school environment so it looks inspiring and exciting, and reflects ‘who we are’ and a sense of ‘belonging’ by including all children’s work in the foyer and hall displays.
About me
I was born in London. My family came by ship to NZ, which took 6 weeks. I was 5 years old when we arrived (same age as the children I teach now!). My partner and I have two sons – one at Takapuna Grammar, and one who lives in Sydney, and we also have a cheeky black labrador!
