Spotlight on success

Nicola Green —

Every now and again we hear about some amazing stories of our students achieving at a regional and national level outside school. Feel free to contact us if you would like to share your child's achievements. We would love to share their story. This newsletter's spotlight on success is on Abby Laird: Basketballer...

Abby has had a successful season of development in basketball. She played for a Pioneer Basketball Club mixed team in the winter on Monday and then was selected to play for the Pioneer girls U15 team in the winter club competition on Sundays. This was super tough as they played against 14- and 15-year old’s and she was often sporting bumps and bruises at school! However, Abby gained a lot from this experience, the 90-minute weekly training sessions and great coaching and she was awarded the Pioneer Basketball Club 2019 Most Improved U15 girl at the end of season prize giving.

Selected for a Christchurch Metro development tournament during the September holidays Abby top-scored in her team’s last game. Abby has loved her basketball experience and the new friends she has made. She is now learning to referee and is a referee volunteer at Pioneer basketball and training with the Cashmere High School girls’ basketball squad once a week in preparation for next season…
