Tena koutou nga whanau, nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa,

Jill Pears —

It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of week 7 of this term.

As we near production time (in week 9), the rehearsals are really starting to ramp up and props and costumes are appearing all around the school. The singing is sounding great and Fiona is doing a fabulous job of directing the actors. We have no doubt it will be a fabulous production so please ensure you have purchased your tickets.

Mid year school reports are also going out at the end of Week 9. The following week students will be sharing their learning and goals with their parents at the Student-Led Learning Conferences. At these, your child(ren) will share with you some aspects of their learning so far this year as well as some of the aspects they will be working on for the rest of the year. Having children being able to discuss their learning, both what they have achieved and what they still have to achieve is part of what educators call ‘Visible Learning’. This term was coined by John Hattie, an educational researcher. One of the aspects of visible learning is students talking about their learning, and participating in setting their goals, and identifying their achievement. This ensures that students have an active role in their learning, and their thinking is visible. If you have any aspects you wish to discuss with the teacher, outside of this, you will need to book an additional time for this purpose. Book your Learning Conference here. Event code: e4pbw

During the rest of the year, a focus of the board and leadership team is around curriculum review. The green forms that parents completed at the beginning of the year, combined with student voice surveys gives us an excellent starting point for reviewing the curriculum. We will also be looking for input from the wider community so if you are interested in being involved please do not hesitate to contact me.

Have a fabulous couple of weeks, stay warm and dry.

Ngā mihi,

Jill.
