Tena koutou nga whanau, nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa,
Another couple of weeks filled with a range of activities, learning and fun at Diamond Harbour School.
Firstly, congratulations to Otis Swallow and Noah Cobby for their winning entry in the Root to Tip School Cooking Challenge. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to taste one of their entries when they rehearsed at school. Their first place was totally deserved. Success of course is very rarely achieved without a team of people working together so a massive thank you must go to Maria Lee, our kitchen specialist as well as the parents and helpers who support the school programme. We are also grateful for organisations such as Garden to Table who have the initiative and foresight to recognise the positive impact such programmes have in schools.
Last week I travelled with our kapa haka group to hear them perform at Governors Bay school. Their performance was stunning, both the singing and the movement. The pride the group obviously felt after their performance was a great example of an intrinsic reward for all the work the students (along with their tutors) had put in.
And there is more …….. we have two teams competing in the Robocup Junior competition at Burnside High School this weekend. These students have built and programmed Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots to complete challenges. But wait, that’s not all …… next Thursday the Diamond Harbour Rock Band competes in the BandQuest competition. They have been rehearsing with Sally Craw and we are very grateful to Sally for all the time she has put in preparing the students for this event. We are fortunate to be able to offer such a range of experiences for our students, many of which are not available in much larger schools.
Rehearsals are progressing well for our upcoming school production "Aladdin Trouble". Tickets are on sale now from the school office. Seats are limited so be in quick and make sure you don't miss out.
Next week, on Thursday, we have Daffodil Day. This is a fundraising event for the Cancer Society. Read more about this in the article ‘Daffodil Day.’
