Te Kohanga Poetry

Karen Coom —

Friday morning in Te Kohanga is a poetry time. As the weather was warm and sunny we ventured down to the vegetable garden to become immersed in the smells and sounds.

The students explored different colours in the garden, along with fragrances, textures and shared ideas. It was a wonderful opportunity for oral language experiences with descriptive language at the forefront.

Ideas were put together and a poem created.

Colours of the Garden

By: Te Kohanga

Purple cauliflower looks like the sunrise
Pink blossom on the ground and trees smells like honey
We’ve found green things now
Green lumpy kale feels like brains
Green herbs with purple flowers that smell nice
Pink, brown and green are the plants in the pots
Brown chickens with mermaid patterns
I like the garden lots and lots.

Each Friday between morning tea and lunch for the remainder of the term, we will have  Sarah Nicholl in Te Kohanga sharing her love of literacy with us.
