Caterpillars, Couch, Sunflowers, Apples and Chickens

Jill Pears —

Year 7 and 8 students had their Garden to Table session last week.

This was the first garden session of the year and there was lots to do. Brassicas that had been planted during the holidays were being eaten by white butterfly caterpillars. These caterpillars were carefully hunted down and removed to where they could do no more harm. Couch that was sending its long tendrils throughout the garden was dug, and the long white roots followed through the soil and lifted out. Sunflower seeds and apples were harvested and the chicken shed was cleaned. With the hard work we are all looking forward to a productive and rewarding year in the garden.

Thank you to Muriel Haines who is the Garden to Table co-ordinator and Bethany (BB) who is our Garden Specialist for all their hard work.
